Be it Mandarin crosstalk, Indian classical dance, traditional glove puppetry, contemporary dance with the embodiment of Malay folk form, experience traditional arts in a refreshing look and a cosy ambience. Join in the architectural tour of our historical building, take a virtual tour of Chinese Opera and a self-guided walking trail of Stamford Arts Centre. To end the night, immerse in the finale concert that harmoniously blends music from different cultures.

Join in the fun with award-winning dikir barat group Kelana Purba as they present this interactive Malay traditional choral singing that encompasses the various art forms including synchronized hand movements and singing accompanied by live percussion music.

The Tiger Hero

 Follow the martial arts master Wu Song as he crosses Jingyang Ridge and meets a man eating tiger! How will Wu Song handle the situation while being intoxicated?

Come join the adventures of Wu Song in this puppetry rendition of the classic Chinese novel, Water Margin, by Paper Monkey Theatre, which aims to inspire through the themes of courage and prevailing hardships.

Longgok

Longgok is conceptualised based on the Malay superstition of the unseen Jinn that hangs around piles of unfolded clothes. It is a unique take on the connection between human behavior and the “unseen”, exploring the idea of anonymous living in present times. P7:1SMA, pronounced as Prisma, is a local contemporary dance company that create works with embodiment of Malay folk form.

Chinese Classics and Dialect Folk Songs with WEBE

WEBE is the unabashedly Singaporean trio of Kailin Yong, Felix Phang and Dawn Wong. Named after a colloquial Hokkien phrase “Wu Eh Bo Eh”, which means “this and that”, WEBE was formed to explore unusual sounds made by interesting things. Join WEBE as they consider their roots through interpretations of Chinese and Dialect folk songs and chit chat about life.

Chinese Opera Stage Tour

 Walk onto a Chinese opera stage and go on an immersive journey of discovery into the world of traditional Chinese street opera.

The Chinese Opera Stage Tour brings visitors through an immersive journey of discovery into the world of traditional Chinese street opera. This virtual reality tour will bring visitors from the backstage area to the performance area, providing a 360-view of the stage. Take a step out of the audience’s seat onto the stage to find out more about how makeup, costumes, props, headdresses and musical instruments come together in a Chinese opera performance. 

The full Chinese Opera Stage Tour will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. There are limited devices and they will be loaned out on a first-come-first-served basis.

SAC Walking Trail

Learn about the history, features and artists at the Stamford Arts Centre through this hands-on experience!
 
Detailed write-up
The SAC Walking Trail offers visitors an interactive experience to learn about the history, features and artists of the arts centre. Visitors can loan a device to activate eight different experiences around the centre at various stations. This augmented reality walking trail brings visitors from the main entrance to the Black Box and around the building to learn more about the centre and its arts residents. Along the trail, visitors will also be able to try out classical Indian dance hand gestures, watch a variety of performance excerpts in a 3D model of the Black Box and learn about different musical instruments. It is perfect for those who are keen to get moving while discovering fun facts and new experiences about the SAC.

The full SAC Walking Trail takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete.  There are limited devices and they will be loaned out on a first-come-first-served basis. All devices may be loaned out within the first 15 minutes of available timeslots.

Rangoli

 Try your hands on painting a 5-metre circular piece of Rangoli, the traditional Indian floor art. Guided by established Rangoli artist Vijaya Mohan, public members will learn how to fill in the pattern outline with colour powders.

Mini Batik Painting

Guided by well-known batik artist, Kamal Dollah, the activity is an introduction to the traditional art of batik painting with pre-waxed batik on a box board for colouring with dye. Public members can bring home their own piece of work.

Siaw-Tao Chinese Seal-Carving Calligraphy & Painting Society

啸涛篆刻书画会

Chinese Calligraphy

Public members can have a taste of Chinese calligraphy by writing simple characters or phrases with brushes. They may also learn about how Chinese characters originated from symbols and pictures, so to better understand and appreciate Chinese calligraphy.

Band of Doodlers will be collaborating with the public to doodle on a mural. This interactive activity will be guided by the doodlers to draw about the heritage of Waterloo Street with a theme that focuses on Traditional Arts.
