Celebrate Singapore Night Festival 2018 at the Singapore Art Museum before the buildings undergo a revamp! Explore the rich architectural heritage of SAM through the façade projection, which takes you through a journey through time and space.

Interact with artworks at Imaginarium: Into the Space of Time and go behind the scenes at Installation in Progress: Exhibition-Making and the Singapore Art Museum. 

Don’t forget to check out some of the region’s best contemporary art at the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize 2018 at NMS. There’s something for everyone at SAM — from free outdoor movies and virtual reality games to live performances, a Harajuku Fashion Walk and so much more!

Haiku Fever

Friday and Saturday, 24 and 25 August 2018

Experience your past, present and future with specially customised surreal collages. A personal haiku will be created on the spot with a typewriter, and visitors to bring home luminous hand-painted cards which reveal their personal narratives and their place in time and space.

Dave Tai runs Haiku Fever as an interactive poetry experience where he turns thoughts and stories into haikus with a typewriter.

Responding to the megaphone project from the exhibition Imaginarium: Into the Space of Time, this contemporary dance performance is inspired by the concept of play and the conversations it entails.

Conceptually, the surrounding scholastic history was also incorporated into the choreography, highlighting the various childhood memories that inhabited the space.

Singapore Management University’s (SMU) only contemporary dance club, INDANCITY has represented SMU at local and international dance festivals and competitions. The club achieved the top placing in the contemporary dance category at the Barcelona Dance Grand Prix 2014, a testament to the club’s growth through the years.

SMU Samba Masala is Singapore Management University’s (SMU) resident Afro-Brazilian percussion band. Incepted in 2004, the band has taken on both local and international stages, and wowed audiences worldwide to establish itself as an esteemed batucada. Their unique blend of dynamic beats and vibrant stage performances promises to leave audiences awestruck and spellbound. SMU Samba Masala’s distinctive nature of fusion Asian / Brazilian percussion is sure to impress with its one-of-a-kind music, style and showmanship.

Tales from Outer Space by Patch and Punnet

Space explorer and spy Ria finds herself on Earth, after crash landing while trying to escape the clutches of an alien race, the Floopyloopy people. After a mission with her partner to steal ""the Planet Destroyer"" from the Floopyloopy people went awry, her partner was captured, and she fled to Earth. 

Soon enough, King Pooka of the Floopyloopy people arrives on Earth and finds Ria. And in true Floopyloopy tradition, her fate is decided with... a dance battle! The audience gets the chance to choose the winner of the battle and if Ria gets to go free or not.

Patch and Punnet work collaboratively to create fresh and fun works made from the soul. By millennials for millennials, they aim to tickle, tease and treat audiences with irreverent and playful theatre. 

Harajuku Fashion Walk Singapore

Are you a big fan of Tokyo’s monthly Harajuku Fashion Walk? If you are, here’s an opportunity for you to parade through Singapore Night Festival 2018 in your favourite Japanese-style outfits!

Show off your personal Japanese fashion style and take a walk around the city! If you prefer not to dress up, you can still partake in this rare sight in Singapore by simply taking photos with the Harajuku fashionistas during the festival.

Harajuku Fashion Walk Singapore is a local version of the monthly walks started in Harajuku, Japan. They wish to create a fun, friendly, and fashionable experience for all fashionistas in Singapore. The 28th Walk will start off traditionally from the Merlion Park and end at SAM at 8Q.
